Fifteen Years on grievous Absence of Martyr: Osman Saleh
Sabbe
The fourth of April comes with noble
meanings that were carried by martyr Osman Saleh Sabbe, may God
(Allah) bless his soul, the national leader of the Eritrean
Revolution.
Although this remembrance is surrounded by
grievous memories, it comes with great meanings of loyalty, faith,
might willing, patriotism, and scarifying on the road of strife
for the welfare and integrity of our beloved country, Eritrea. |
 | Furthermore, his
absence has never meant cease of the great mission he devoted his life
for; the mission aimed at restoring the freedom of Eritrean people, its
dignity, its national character and its fundamental rights. However,
unfortunately, that mission has never attained its inevitable
destination; though, the Eritrean territories was liberated more than
ten years ago and the enemy, which the martyr led the national strife
against, was driven out.
We find this occasion as sound time to call on the
Eritrean people to assemble on the principles of the martyr, which are
part and parcel of the principles of the Eritrean revolution.
Martyr Osman Saleh Sabbe, a well-known Eritrean patriot, whose
national passion was enraged with offensive regime of Haile Sillasy (The
Perished Ethiopian Emperor). The martyr founded an underground society,
which was consisting of the students from all Ethiopian nationalities,
when he was school student in Addis Ababa. That society aimed at
promoting self-determination for those nationalities. Since then he
pursued a long lasting struggle for independence of Eritrea.
He
started sending Eritrean Scholars to Sudan and Egypt. Later he left
Eritrea to participate in the leadership of Eritrean Liberation Front
(ELF), where he served as secretary of foreign affair; and subsequently
a leader who represented the Eritrean revolution of on the international
stage.
The martyr was good-natured, noble hearted, gracious,
gentle, tactful orator and, beyond all, he was coherent to the Eritrean
question; he devoted his life the revolution and became a corner stone
and a symbol for it at that era.
The missing leader established
"Eritrean Office of Foreign affairs", securing sympathy and recognition
of outside world to the Eritrean case and its legitimacy and
subsequently to the Eritrean revolution. That office played a vital role
in the success that was achieved by the revolution.
The martyr's
participation in the informational field was parallel to his diplomatic
role. He founded an informational bureau in Beirut and another in Rome,
as well as a publishing office in Damascus, where the "Revolution"
magazine born. He also helped in publishing a variety of periodicals,
folders, books and booklets in different languages; in addition to
Arabization of a lot of books and documents on Eritrea and its case.
He gave education due special attention, so as to establish a
callous core for the revolution. He founded chances of education for
Eritreans of all walks; and ultimately, his efforts brought their fruits
by founding the "Eritrean Educational Organization" which was a pioneer
educational institution.
He had never ignored the working class,
founding its organizations on one hand, and promoting establishment of
Eritrean communities in the countries where native workers settled in.
he was, as well, a genuine and permanent supporter of refugee
development in the economical, social and cultural domains; he
established and ran institutions, dispensaries, clinics, and
rehabilitation and training center in refugee camps and nearby towns in
Sudan, and besides he exhibits educational scholarships to their young
people.
This is some of various national and humanitarian roles
of martyr Osman Saleh Sabbe, may peace be upon his soul. We hope to
receive the next remembrance in settled Eritrea under ruling of law,
multiparty democracy, and respect of human rights.
The Eritrean
National Democratic Front (ENDF) proposes All-Eritrean roundtable
conference to convene and discuss how can the Eritrean people and its
organizations restore their due and legitimate rights, find an exit out
the political dilemma that the tyrannical regime brought the country in,
and to amend the hurt took place in the social and economical fabric of
Eritrea.
These circumstances are rather similar to the situation
used to be dominated in the Haile Sillasy's era; when the martyr denied
to let the wind pass, and he had never let his people down until his
soul was risen up to its eternal rest, may Allah (God) bless his soul.
