Thirty-nine illegal immigrants arrived in Malta on Friday evening. There are three women and two children amongst the group. This was the second group of illegal immigrants to enter Malta in two days.

Despite the rough voyage by sea, the illegal immigrants are in good health condition. The intended destination of the group is still unknown. Thirty-eight of the illegal immigrants are claiming to hold an Eritrean nationality while one of them is claiming to be of Egyptian origin.

They were on a dinghy around 65 nautical miles in the south of Malta, when their boat started taking in water. The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) saved the immigrants and brought them to Malta on a patrol boat.

The other group of 28 illegal immigrants, claiming to hold a Somali nationality, landed in Malta on Thursday afternoon after being rescued by a ship that was sailing towards Greece.
